The photos above are the photos that my friend Bryan took while i was visiting him in Japan a year ago (almost exactly). I think the flights to and from Japan and to and from New Zealand and Australia took a lot out of me since i’ve not traveled much since that crazy couple of months last year. I’m looking forward to whatever trips out west and east i’m going to take this summer. there are several plans in the making, but nothing solid yet.

Lately, i’ve been devoting my time to creating a WordPress theme “to rule them all” which means i’ve been working on a theme that i could easily have customized and ready in a weekend for whoever wants one. Any takers? Leave me a message and i’ll get back to you ASAP! Needless to say, things are going to be changing a bit around this blog with some examples of the new project.

The commuter bike is still riding strong. i swung by REI downtown yesterday to pick up a rack, but they didn’t have the one i want. Recently, i bought an Ortlieb saddle bag from Bike Trailer Shop and received my order in two days, so, i’m sold! i plan on ordering my Ortlieb Backroller Classic panniers, a Rackpack, and a pannier carrier system from them, since they have such good service and a great package deal on the bags. They have a great selection is anyone is interested in bike commuting, biking your drive, or all out touring.

I finished building the commuter bike and its riding beautifully. We had a scare after I ran the cable from the right shifter (9 speed Ultegra) to the derailleur (9 speed XT M750). I purchased these shifters for $85 from craigslist and they were pretty much brand new with no wear and clean insides, so, after I ran the cable and no shifting or pulling of cable was happening at all, I assumed that they were so cheap because they didn’t work. After playing with them for a bit, I noticed the cable wasn’t coiling up inside the way it should, so, we pulled the cable out of the housing and ran it again, this time, the correct way. Shifting is wonderful. Still breaking in the cables, but i’m loving it so far. Now for the rack and panniers for grocery shopping and future touring!

In other news, you can now watch all 6 minutes of my oddly famous “Grackles of 6th and Lamar” in High Definition! You have to click on the link, though, because i’m not paying to have HD embeds. Be sure to stick around for the craziness that occurs around minute 3.
